Here's a couple of notes. First, Report Cards come home today. Please sign and return the envelope. I reward the kiddos with Super Kid Tickets for returned envelopes! 5 Tickets!!
You will notice a new envelope. Sorry, I had an accident with a vanilla latte on our cold Thursday afternoon. Oops. Many of you have already signed and paid for our field trips. Take a minute and visit mealpayplus.com to take care of the field trip payment and permission slips. Fairy Tales and Collections. In the report card envelope I added two papers. One explains our need of extra fairy tales and folk tales for our upcoming unit. Take a peak at the list on the back of that page. Also, we start a writing unit next week and students are asked to bring in a small collection from home. See the note for instructions. Homework changes soon. I am assessing the First 100 words to see which ones your child can spell. Also adding a reading response piece. We will get going with this and be in full swing by the end of the month. I will keep you posted. This week was again a busy week. We are wrapping up telling time to the hour and half hour. I will assess the kids next week on their progress. After time, we will work with data collection and graphing. Ms. Spencer is working with them on the journey of Lewis and Clark. Next week we will start Nonfiction Reading Book Clubs. It will be fun to hear what lingering questions students have when we start that work.
I am so thankful for each of my friends. Have a wonderful weekend. Next week is Red Ribbon Week Here is the schedule. The kiddos can dress up each day. Monday will be “RED RIBBON WEEK KICKOFF” and we ask that everyone wear Red to support the celebration.
Thursday will be “How Fruity are You?!?” Everyone is encouraged to dress in the color of their favorite fruit or vegetable. Friday’s theme is “I’ve got my ZZZZ’s!” and we will all be wearing pajamas to remind us to get 10 or more hours of sleep (7-9 for adults if we’re lucky!). I can't believe it is October! Please check back frequently because there are lots of events on the calendar. Hoot Scoot and United Way are all layered in next week. check the White Oak Website for more information.
We finished shapes with an assessment yesterday and start fractions, whole, halves and quarters. Ben Franklin is next up in Social Studies and we are wrapping up landforms with another run of Paperslides. We are busy this week and I am sorry to say we are off our schedule again. It is very hard on all of us when we mix up our schedule. The kiddos struggle to keep up with the changes.
Students are released early Wednesday and Thursday. Our lunch time and specials schedules change, too. Lunch Wednesday and Thursday is at 11:12-11:42. Specials only on Wednesday. No Special Classes for First Grade on Thursday. We will go as a class Tuesday to shop at the Book Fair and I will send kiddos with money to the Book Fair on any day they bring money in to school for the Book Fair. Thanks for your flexibility. I look forward to meeting with you all this week. Stephanie Early Release Days are next week, September 24 and 25. Students are dismissed early. We will have lunch at school early both days. Please do not make plans to have lunch with us on those two days. We eat early at 11:12. We have our Special's class on Wednesday. No special area classes on Thursday.
Last week was a busy week. The kiddos took 2 tests, learned about two new technologies, Voki and Paperslides. Students made their own avatars on Voki and this week work in small groups to write and produce a Paperslide about maps and globes.
It is important that all my young friends get lots of sleep this week and start the day with breakfast. Student will take the CogAt. We start Monday at 8:30 and test again Tuesday and Wednesday. I already told the class our schedule will change due to testing. We will have our specials at the end of the day instead of in the morning. After Wednesday we are back on schedule. Early Release Conference Days are September 24 and 25. Check the White Oak website to sign up. I noticed the link is not on the website this morning, but I am sure it will go active soon. I hope you had a great weekend. Stephanie |
